Mozart s concertos, like the symphonies of his friend Joseph Haydn, are all
unique works with their own special moods and orchestral colorings. In
considering the series of 23 original piano concertos composed by Mozart,
it is fascinating to examine the variation and organic development that
took place in the creation of each one, and to observe his many different
treatments of what we now call the concerto form.
Jonathan Carney comes from a unique musical family background. As all
six members of his family graduated from the Juilliard School in New York,
music was a constant influence from an early age. After leaving the Juilliard
School, where he studied from the age of eight with Christine Dethier and
Ivan Galamian, Jonathan moved to England on a Leverhulme Fellowship
Award and continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London.
He is an avid exponent of 20th-century music and his repertoire includes
works by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Bruno Maderna, John Cage, and William
Bolcum. Ronan O Hora is firmly established as one of Britain s leading
pianists. He has performed extensively in every major country in Europe and
in the US, Canada, and South Africa performing with such orchestras as the
London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Academy of St.
Martin in the Fields, and Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra.
